Our winter trip to Mt. Rainier National Park Cabins allowed us to explore the Winter Wonderland of Mount Rainier. Our journey along the Wonderland Trail from Longmire to Carter Falls revealed stunning snowy landscapes. In December, the trail often boasts well-packed snow, ideal for microspikes. Discover off-trail snowshoeing adventures with powdery snow just off the main trail. Exercise caution when crossing the Nisqually River footlog, especially in icy conditions. Crampons on snowshoes enhance safety. Navigate two slopes near Carter Falls mindful of potential avalanche risk. For a safer experience, beginners can enjoy the trail from Longmire to Carter Falls without crossing the river. Consider exploring Trail of the Shadows, opposite the Longmire parking lot. Familiarity with summer trails enhances winter snowshoeing fun. Witness the transformation of familiar scenes into a magical winter wonderland!
