Mount Rainier Weather

ASHFORD WEATHER

Mt. Rainier’s weather is as dynamic and awe-inspiring as the mountain itself. Due to its high elevation and location in the Pacific Northwest, the weather can change rapidly.

Summers are generally mild and pleasant, with temperatures ranging from the mid-50s to mid-70s Fahrenheit, making it an ideal time for hiking and exploring. However, even in summer, sudden storms and chilly winds are possible, so layering is crucial. Reservations may be required for entry June 1st to September 2nd.

Winters are harsher, with heavy snowfall and temperatures often dropping below freezing, creating a snowy wonderland perfect for winter sports. Tire chains are required when entering the national park November 1st through May 1st.

Spring and fall bring transitional weather, with spring thawing into blooming wildflowers and fall offering colorful foliage. Visitors should be prepared for a wide range of conditions, as Mt. Rainier’s weather can shift dramatically from sunny to stormy within hours.

Dining at Mount Rainier

When embarking on a trip to Mount Rainier, you’ll find that Mt. Rainier National Park Cabins are well-equipped to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. Each cabin comes stocked with essentials such as salt, pepper, and oil, and features a full set of cookware and utensils. For added convenience, many cabins include an instant pot or crock pots, perfect for easy meal preparation after a day of hiking. Additionally, all cabins are outfitted with BBQ grills for those who prefer to cook outdoors and savor a meal with a view. Grocery options in Ashford are quite limited, so it’s a good idea to stock up on supplies beforehand. We recommend stopping by Eatonville’s Plaza Market or Winco in Puyallup to gather your groceries before heading up.

If you prefer dining out, local restaurant favorites include Basecamp Bar and Grill, Copper Creek, and Mill Haus (which is worth the drive for its unique offerings).
