RIGHT OUTSIDE
A neighborhood
worth wandering.

The neighborhood is walkable; a car is best for exploring Ashford and the national park. Please respect private lots and keep dogs leashed.
04 / ROAD TO PARADISE
Make a day of the mountain.
Our local favorites, from a grocery stop on the way in to a trail you’ll remember.
Skyline Trail
A bigger mountain day: 1,700 feet of elevation gain, broad alpine views, and about 4½ hours of hiking. Check snow and trail conditions first.
Bench & Snow Lakes
A lake outing with rolling climbs and about 700 feet of elevation gain. Allow roughly two hours and check that the access road is open.
Comet Falls
Climb about 900 feet to the falls, allowing around three hours. Extending to Van Trump Park makes it a 5.8-mile outing with 2,000 feet of gain.
Rampart Ridge
Another option from our Road to Paradise hiking list. Open the park’s trail guide for route details and check current conditions before leaving.
Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad
A different way to spend a mountain day. Ask about the current train schedule and reserve ahead for the departure you want.
Find your kind of hike
Browse our family walks, longer hikes, and winter outing ideas. Choose a route for your group’s ability and the day’s conditions.
BaseCamp Bar & Grill
One of our Road to Paradise dining favorites. A convenient stop when you’d rather let someone else do the cooking.
Copper Creek
A local favorite from our area guide. Check opening hours before heading out, especially outside the main summer season.
Mill Haus
Our Road to Paradise guide calls this one worth the drive. Make it part of an outing rather than a quick walk from the cabin.
Dinner at the cabin
Pick up groceries on the way, put the full kitchen to work, and settle around the table. Check seasonal propane availability if you plan to grill.
Plaza Market · Eatonville
A fuller grocery selection about 35 minutes from the cabin, according to our host guide. A useful stop before heading into Ashford.
WinCo · Puyallup
Our Road to Paradise guide suggests stocking up here before the drive. Ashford’s grocery choices are limited.
Ashford County Store
A nearby option for basics and forgotten supplies. Check current opening hours and selection before making a special trip.
Park entry & winter travel
NPS says timed-entry reservations are not required in 2026. Entrance fees and passes still apply. Check requirements for your travel dates.
All vehicles, including AWD and 4WD, must carry tire chains November 1–May 1.
